FYI: Madrona Fiber Arts registration

If you're having a hard time getting in, it's not just you. Registration appears to have opened ~8:08am. Less than ten minutes later, the server was slammed, to the point of dropping registrations partway through the process (which meant that some classes were filled in the next attempt).

The website's class lists will be updated later on with which are full, but in the meantime (since people liked getting the early notice on LJ last year):

What turned out to be the falsely filled classes follow:
First set of full classes:
* Jean Wong, Tailored Knitting
* Lucy Neatby, Cool Socks
* Ruth Sorensen, Kauni Hat

Second set of full classes:
* Kathryn Alexander, Energy in Singles
* Pat Brunner, Make It Fit!
* Janel Laidman, Spinning a Painted Skein
* Anita Luvera Mayer, The Secret Formula for Creativity
* Ann Bourgeois, Fair Isle Simplified
* Evelyn Clark, Basics of Lace Knitting
* Susanna Hansson, Lapland Hand Garments
* Syne Mitchell, Weaving for Beginners
* Margaret Radcliffe, Sideways Sweaters
* Ruth Sorensen, Designing with Self-Striping Yarns
* Lucy Neatby, Gilding the Lily
* Janine Bajus, Choosing Colors for Fair Isle Designs
* Nancy Bush, Tvaandsstickning
* Jean Wong, Fine Finishing Techniques
* Kathryn Alexander, Doo Dads and Finishing in Knitting
* Pat Brunner, The Basics of Short Rows
* Kathy Connelly, Continental Knitting
* Lucy Neatby, Dabble into Double
* Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, at least three Cast Offs
* Kathryn Alexander, Knitting and Designing with Entrelac
* Nancy Bush, Haapsalu Ratik
* Sue Ewens, Art Socks
* Judith MM, To Spin a Fine Yarn
* Jean Wong, Buttonholes
* Judith MM, Spin a Perfect Sock Yarn

Next batch of filled classes, as of around 8:30 or so:
* Evelyn Clark, Designing Lace Triangles
* Lucy Neatby, A Phoenix from the Ashes
* Lucy Neatby, Intarsia Explored

Note: all information was gained while trying to register; I didn't check just for the fun of it and risk slowing down anyone else's registration. :) Commented updates (and cheers, and arghs) welcome.

ETA: registration temporarily suspended for technical difficulties.

ETA #2: info from the Madrona mailing list! Good news!

To those who are trying to register for the Winter Retreat,

We are so sorry for the technical problems on our registration process. We use national conference web based software based in Colorado that assured us they could handle this and they did last year. The technical folks at RegOnline are working on this and we obviously slowed down their processing.

We have suspended registration for a short while. All the classes ARE NOT Full ... it shows that because as soon as someone clicks on a class it is saved for them and when that is done several times by the same person trying to get through it fills up the classes. We thank you for your patience. We are trying to do this as fairly as possible.

WE ARE WORKING THROUGH ALL THE EMAILS WE RECEIVED IN ORDER TO HELP PEOPLE GET THEIR REGISTRATIONS THROUGH. YOU DO NOT NEED TO EMAIL ME AGAIN. IF YOU HAVEN'T EMAILED ME AND DID NOT GET THE CLASSES YOU TRIED TO REGISTER FOR OR THERE WAS A MISTAKE IN THE CLASSES THAT DID COME THROUGH, PLEASE EMAIL ME AT suzanne@madronafiberarts.com. We will try to get all of you who tried to register through the system before we open registration again. I will send you a link to register again .... DO NOT USE THE RECALCULATION BUTTON AS THE TECHNICAL PEOPLE FEEL THIS WAS THE PROBLEM THAT SLOWED THE SYSTEM.

Again, we are so sorry. We are working as fast as we can.

Suzanne and Cornie

ETA #3: Registration back open!
Hello everyone,

We are all so very sorry for all the technical issues that have gone on with registration today from our webmaster losing power this morning to the online registration system being overloaded to Suzanne who is now sitting in the dark after losing power this morning including her auxiliary power. Boy when it rains here in Washington it really pours!

However, we are happy to announce that REGISTRATION HAS REOPENED. You can register at http://www.madronafiberarts.com/register.html or go directly to http://www.regonline.com/63325_154911S

If you tried to register this morning and either had the system time out or you didn't get the classes you wanted, please register again. You will not be charged twice -- all credit cards will be manually charged later.

MANY CLASSES ARE STILL AVAILABLE even if they were showing as filled this morning. However, please do not use the recalculation button as the online registration techs feel that this may have contributed to the system problems this morning.

To register go to http://www.madronafiberarts.com/register.html or go directly to http://www.regonline.com/63325_154911S

We thank you for your continued patience!

Suzanne and Cornie

It's very frustrating. I got registered okay, but my friend hit a technical problem and never made it through, and now everything is full.

I'm hoping that part of the technical difficulties is that everything isn't full. Which might be wishful thinking. But I was on the website at 8 am and NOTHING was full when I tried to register, and it wouldn't let me do ANYTHING, and took 5 minutes every time I went back a page. I am pretty ticked off.

ETA And after the website said registrations were suspended, I went back to the original regonline URL and everything was wide open, so I'm not sure if I should fill it out or respect that they have things suspended.

*crosses fingers*

And, um... by typing in reg... and pulling up the first thing that came up in my browser history and filling out the forms from there, it just let me sign up Kathryn and myself for two classes each. I don't know if this means we are in the classes or not.

That's too bad about your friend! They sure filled up quickly; I remember that happening last year, but not the technical problems. Which classes did you get into?

10:18am

none of the classes are marked full, but the registration form doesnt come up (this also means we cant register for a hotel room at the discounted rate....most unfortunate!)

dang! do they need help for NEXT year on designing a system that can handle the load?

The hotel stuff is on a different page, and should work: http://madronafiberarts.com/hotel.html

thanks!
I couldnt find that page through the regular reg info pages. duh!

Thank goodness. I e-mailed to verify that Kathryn and I got the ones I tried to sign up for, we'll see what we got. Poor Suzanne, what a nightmare.

Good luck! And... definitely. :/ I don't want to imagine what it's like to have systems break down like this, leaving such an array of dismayed/worried/upset customers. (I do love, love, love the idea of "saving the place" as soon as one clicks on a class, and hope that that works out without incident next year. Perhaps it will be included in the information.)

*admires your icon*

Maybe e-mail her, if you haven't already? It did take a while, but she just sent me the link to register again that I needed (and registration turned out to indeed be successful this time), so they're making some progress, and the people who e-mail apparently will get a chance before it's reopened to everyone, so... there's hope? Or there could be? *peers into dregs of tea leaves*

Checking after it reopened just now... there's a lot still available, including some Judith MM and Neatby if you like that sort of thing.

I made a nuisance of myself and called and emailed so they sent me a "good" link at about noon (PST) and that worked just fine and I got everything I wanted... *crosses fingers*
now I just have to write a BIG check! :( boo.
